What to do if you smell gas of have a power cut
Gas Leak
If you suspect there is a gas leak at or around your home please follow the instructions below: -
What to do -
- Inform your Support Worker
- Open all doors and windows
- Turn off gas at meter (unless the meter is in a cellar or basement)
- Don't use electric switches, smoke or use matches
- Ask a Support Worker to telephone the National Grid emergency line on 0800 111 999 (Free)
- If there isn't a Support Worker availble ring the number yourself. The call centre will talk you through what to do next
- Get a job number from National Grid
- Telephone Harbour Light to report the issue and too pass on the job number

You or a Support Worker will need to ring the National Grid emergency number as the call centre will want to ask you questions specific to the incident. They will also want to tell you what to do next.
Electrical Power Cut
If the power cut is only in your property follow the instructions below. If the power cut is affecting more than just your property contact 105 to get information about power cuts in your arear or to report a power cut.
What to do -
- If you have Pre-payment meter please check you have credit
- If you have added credit check it been released on the meter
- Inform your Support Worker
- Check to see if any of the fuses have tripped - see video
- If this does not fix the problem ring Harbour Light (0151 909 5919) to report the issue
YOU CAN CALL 105 TO REPORT OR GET INFORMATION ABOUT POWER CUTS IN YOUR LOCAL AREA.
You can also call 105 if you spot damage to electricity power lines and substations that could put you, or someone else, in danger. If there’s a serious immediate risk, you should call the emergency services too. 105 is a free service which you can call the number from most landlines and mobile phones.
